Born in Venice, California in 1996, Carver Skateboards grew from a simple idea: creating a skateboard capable of reproducing more of the movement and feeling of surfing on land. Surfers Neil Carver and Greg Falk began experimenting with a new type of front truck, eventually developing the C7 system and helping establish what is now known as surfskating.
Today, Carver surfskates are designed around pumping, carving and generating speed through turns rather than relying solely on pushing. Different board shapes, wheelbases and truck systems make it possible to choose a setup according to the kind of riding you're looking for, from flowing lines and surf training to tighter turns and more skate-oriented sessions.
The Carver C7 is the brand's original surfskate system. Its dual-axis construction combines a swinging arm with the movement of the truck hanger, creating a fluid, adjustable ride designed for deep carving and smooth rail-to-rail transitions.
The Carver CX takes a different approach. Its reverse-kingpin geometry provides a lighter and more direct setup, with quick, responsive turns and plenty of pump. Carver compares its snappier response to the feeling of riding a thruster surfboard, making the CX a particularly versatile option for carving, surf training and skatepark riding.
The more compact C5 brings Carver's surfskate concept closer to conventional skateboarding, with a lower and lighter configuration intended for smaller boards, tricks and skateparks.
Choosing a Carver isn't therefore simply a question of picking a deck graphic. Truck system, deck length, wheelbase and shape all influence how quickly the board turns, how stable it feels and the type of lines you can draw.
At Walrus Surfshop, we select Carver surfskates as an extension of surfing beyond the water: boards made for carving, pumping, working on movement and, above all, enjoying the simple pleasure of drawing a good line on concrete.
