Men surf wetsuit

The choice of your wetsuit for man should be based on different criteria. You will have to choose a tight fitting model, close enough to the body so that water and air do not penetrate inside. It should also allow for optimal freedom of movement. Depending on the use, it will be more or less thick and covering. It is easy to imagine that winter wetsuits should be avoided in warm waters above 20°C. The thickness of the neoprene can vary from 1 to 6mm depending on the model. Full surf wetsuit, shorty model, back zip... The choice of wetsuits is wide.

HOW TO CHOOSE A WETSUIT ?

Choosing a wetsuit is not done lightly. Some criteria must be respected to surf serenely without being bothered by annoying rubbing or cold water pockets in the suit.

First of all, to make sure you have a suitable wetsuit, it is essential to choose a tight-fitting model and above all to avoid a wetsuit that is too big. The wetsuit should fit tightly to the body and the fabric should not leave any empty space. With a suit that is too large, air and cold water pockets could form, creating very unpleasant sensations. When ordering a wetsuit online, it may be helpful to measure waist, shoulder width and leg length.

Finally, choose a suit that you feel comfortable in. It must offer a freedom of movement almost similar to that felt without any clothing to have the guarantee of a pleasant glide.

The different types of wetsuits

A WETSUIT CAN BE PRESENTED IN VARIOUS FORMS:

Men's wetsuit models: there are different types, the most classic being the full wetsuit. This one covers the whole body up to the knees and the wrists; it is adapted for a first purchase. Very comfortable models such as the Long John allow for an optimal range of movement of the arms since they are completely uncovered. For surfing in temperate to warm waters, the overknees can be interesting. It arrives just below the knees and its sleeves are short. Finally, for an even lighter model, the shorty wetsuit remains a must.

The differences in thickness of neoprene: a wetsuit should also be chosen according to its thickness. For surfing in warm waters above 20°C, the 1-2 mm model will be adapted. For waters from 13 to 18°C, choose a 3/2 mm wetsuit. The 4/3 mm wetsuit is designed for surfing in water between 9 and 14°C, i.e. autumnal temperatures. For a winter wetsuit, the most suitable models are the 5/4/3 when the water is between 8 and 12°C and the 6/5/4 for water below 8°C.

The different closing systems : there are two main closing systems for a wetsuit. The first one is the back zip, or back closure system. It is the most popular because the wetsuit is quite easy to put on. The second type of closure is the chest zip. These suits have the advantage of letting less water in, however, they are more difficult to put on and take off.

OUR SELECTION OF WETSUIT BRANDS

Walrus Surf Shop presents a wide range of wetsuits for men, including laboratory-tested products from Patagonia. These excellent quality wetsuits have the advantage of being environmentally friendly. Indeed, they are all made from natural rubber, the Yulex. This is an interesting alternative to neoprene wetsuits, a petroleum derivative. The rubber used comes from sustainably managed forests certified by the Rainforest Alliance. All of these Patagonia products are laboratory tested for scientifically proven quality.

From wetsuit jackets and full-face hooded wetsuits for cold weather, to short-sleeved wetsuits with covered legs, to shorty wetsuits... Patagonia offers a wide range of wetsuit styles to suit all waters and weather conditions.

For neoprene models, we recommend the Dawn Patrol range (with Chest Zip or 5mm Back Zip) which presents different quality models such as the Rip Curl Dawn Patrol 5mm wetsuit with Back Zip or the Dawn Patrol Chest Zip. Finally, the Omega Back Zip wetsuit is also a reliable model from Rip Curl. The Omega Back Zip is available in different thicknesses.
